How many of us claim to love our fellow being? I know I claim to posses that type of love. Then comes the question – how many people did we pass on the road today without stopping to help? Why didn’t we stop? Someone else will help them, right? We’re in a hurry and don’t have time to stop, but we will next time. Don’t get me wrong, I am speaking about this from experience. I’ve had these same thoughts run through my head as I passed those people in need.
I truly believe that most people have a love for their fellow being. That is why most people have the desire to help others in some sort of way. I know I was being a bit extreme in my example of helping the people on the side of the road, but I wanted to give you something to think about.
As I’ve thought about what it means to love someone and all the examples of love that exist, I realized that most, if not all demonstrations of love result in some sort of service – the giving of time and energy – the giving of self. Why does love drive people to service? As far as I can tell, it is because if you love someone you want the best for them, in everything.
The challenge for us all is to strive to be a little better, do a little more, help a few more people – every day. Let’s strive to let our actions speak louder than our words and demonstrate our love by giving service to those in need.
